The outdoor activity centre which is based in an area of Zetland Estates is now celebrating its 21st year of successful operations.
The centre incorporates a wide range of activities including team building and award-winning leadership programmes as well as events and activities such as rope courses and archery.
The centre is also the official home of the Krypton Factor Assault course.
Will Scullion, managing director of the centre, had served 17 years in the Parachute Regiment and had five years left to serve when he began thinking about his career post-military.
Will didn’t want to work for anyone however and said: “I wanted to do something I enjoyed and was good at”.
“Leadership has always fascinated me, having been led by an array of different people over the years I have learned a lot.”
He turned his focus to implementing best practices and gained recognition for his success both in the barracks and the battlefield.
After finishing his military career he spent a year planning and building on the site in Richmond, North Yorkshire all the way back in 2002.
Starting your own business from scratch can be challenging and Will said: “Anyone who starts a business is definitely brave, if not stupid, in the endeavour and many times it was more stressful than combat!”
Adrenalin has changed and adapted over the years to meet the needs of its different clients and visitors, surviving many minor catastrophes along the way.
From 2005 to 2015 Adrenalin was the provider of activities to the infantry Training Centre as part of their retention of recruits in training.
This initial success allowed the centre to expand and invest in those tentative early years.
Going from strength to strength in 2008 the assault course was chosen by ITV to be the Krypton Factor assault course, which was used to film it for two years.
They are also award winners having been recognised as regional winners of Investors In People in 2011 in partnership with British Steel for their joint academy program.
The outdoor pursuits centre then went on to become the Investors In People national winners beating well-known and tough competition.
Adrenalin has since been on many TV shows including Biggest Loser, Blue Peter, Good Morning Britain, Children In Need, Guy Martin Normandy Landing and a movie about the SAS.
The team also runs a charity obstacle course race twice a year called ‘The Adrenalin Shock’, which last year raised £24,800 alone for the Army Benevolent Fund.
A Zombie Apocalypse-themed event called ‘The Day Of The Dead’ is also held every year in aid of the same charity.
Adrenalin now offers sixteen different activities from a climbing wall to zip lines, survival training, paintball and much more.
The team is now looking forward to many more successful years ahead working with and supporting local businesses in the process.
