Ginger Tree, a holistic health and beauty clinic based at Aske Stables, has been announced as a finalist in the national BABTAC Awards.
Nominated in four categories including best beauty therapist, facialist, holistic therapist and individual salon the awards are based on assessment and inspection as well as skill tests.
BABTAC is the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology and is the leading professional body in the UK for therapists, education, professional standards and insurance.
The awards have been a key date in the beauty industry calendar for over a decade and are sponsored by some of the biggest names in beauty including Dermalogica and No 7 Beauty.
The process of being nominated as a semifinalist involved several phases including a detailed application, testimonials and videos.
Applicants are then required to do a range of specific treatments via zoom online and as part of the individual salon award, an in-person interview as well as a treatment on the judge to go through to the final.
After having to postpone the awards in 2020 and 2021 the awards are now due to take place on the 8th May 2022 at The Fairmont Windsor Park Hotel.
Ginger Tree Beauty has also been a finalist at both the 2016 and 2019 BABTAC & CIBTAC awards as well as winning several Client Experience Awards.
The salon specialises in bespoke facial and holistic treatments incorporating the benefits of relaxation and medical-grade skin care to create treatments tailored to clients and the concern they want to solve.
Kathy Scott, the one-woman team behind the salon is now a qualified teacher and will be setting up a training academy to teach regulated, government recognised qualifications in the industry.
After finding out she was nominated she said: “It's a lot of hard work but these are nationally recognized awards that can't be bought.
“For somebody working on their own, it's been fantastic to have this recognition as I do everything myself from cleaning the toilets to the marketing!
“BABTAC has such a high profile in the industry and the nation and I’m in that top percent and that's a fantastic feeling.”
The business has been located at Aske Estate for nine years after relocating from Hawes.
On why she moved here Kathy said: “It perfectly matches my business profile, it's private, it's quiet, it's in a luxurious setting and is a well taken care of building with a maintenance team that are incredibly responsive and helpful.”
Kathy has spent many years gaining numerous qualifications to be able to call herself a skin therapist and said: “I must have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on training but I love it - it's easy to do something when you love it.”
Of course, many businesses have experienced hardships over the last few years with the skincare and beauty industry being hit particularly hard as Kathy said: “I’ve done really well to keep going. Without the covid grants I wouldn't have survived, I did manage to do some retail and zoom classes with follow along massages during that time though.”
In 2018 Kathy was involved in a serious car accident which resulted in her having to close for eight weeks.
She was then able to start working part-time again, however had to use a back brace for several months and said: “ I kept the business going and it was so difficult as I lost so much money whilst also paying for treatment on my own back, then covid came!
“It's been a tough few years but I have never lost my enthusiasm for what I do or my commitment to giving clients the most reliable information to improve their skin health and make them feel they can trust me in what I do and say and I’ve done it virtually all on my own.”
We wish Ginger Tree the best of luck and are looking forward to the future with them as part of Zetland Estates!
